converter charger

This smart converter charger converts AC shore power into DC power and uses the Charge Wizard multistage charging system to charge your battery bank. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.

Charge Wizard Operation

Using the built-in Charge Wizard, the converter charger automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. This charger is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Boost: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. This is where most of the charging happens. It charges the battery up to 90% of the full capacity.
  2. Normal: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery begins to reach capacity, the normal state will kick in and reduce the voltage to safely complete the charge.
  3. Storage: Once the battery reaches full charge and remains unused for 30 hours, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: This mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended storage cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Safety Features

cooling fan

The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. It also has GFCI protection that shuts off power when there is a current imbalance. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature on the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.

Available Converter Status Remote Pendant for Easy Monitoring and Control

converter status remote pendant

The Converter Status Remote Pendant (sold separately) monitors the converter's charging status. It also allows you to manually override the charge process to verify the unit is operating properly. The pendant uses a flashing green LED to indicate what charging mode is active. It easily connects to the converter's accessory port with the attached cable.

How It Installs

The converter mounts horizontally inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. However, as long as the unit has sufficient ventilation, it can also be mounted vertically. The mounting hardware is not included.

terminals and plug

The DC output terminals wire to the battery bank. The AC in cord plugs into a 120V 3-wire grounded source.

I have 2 of these. One just literally burned up after two years of very light duty, as it is only used as a backup for solar. I just purchased 2 more as a replacement and spare. None of them were shipped in the original packaging or with documentation. All were just put in a box with a piece of paper for padding.

This is a follow-up after 1 year. The replacement unit that was purchased a year ago is still in service albeit very seldom used solar backup. The second unit of the 2 originally purchased just died a couple months ago after 2.5 years of moderate use.

etrailer always has the hard to find parts and shipping is so quick witch means jobs go out the door faster

by:

It works great. Exactly what I needed. 1969 Airstream

by:

etrailer should take some lessons from Amazon. When multiple products are sent to a distributor in a large box or pallet, the individual items should then be shipped for an order in a secure package. etrailer simply slapped a label on the manufacturer’s flimsy carton and tossed it to USPS who succeeded it breaking the single stran of tape around the box. When I received the package, the box was totally opened on one end and the inverter mounting tab was bent. Not the delivery I would expect for a $600+ item.

We utilized the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and lithium Battery Charger as part of our lead acid to Lithium upgrade for our Aliner RV. We had several manufacturers to choose from but are very pleased with our decision to go with this product. It’s performance remains steadfast after the first year in service, its quiet, efficient, reliable and perhaps best of all MADE IN AMERICA! The multi stage smart charging g work flawlessly with our Lithium battery system. 100% recommendations from this satisfied us timer!

I installed this in my camp with 400 watts of solar an a LFP04 battery with a generator hookup. I use the lithium charge profile and it works great. It runs my 12v rv refrigerator with no issue.

Installation of PD9260C into Parallax 7300 power distribution panel

I purchased the Progressive Dynamics PD9260 to replace the power converter in my 2007 Airstream. My trailer had a Parallax7300 power distribution and power converter (AC to DC) installed from Airstream. I decided to replace just the power converter after it had failed. The PD9260C fit perfectly where the previous converter was installed with very little modification or effort.

I simply removed the older converter, removed some standoffs where the previous converters circuit board was mounted along with the old fan, and then drilled some holes to mount the PD9260 in the mounting tray of the old unit. I wired the new converter to the existing connections and tried it out. Everything worked as expected.

by:

Very concerned about this. Unit arrived via USPS in an unmarked cardboard box with zero packing. There was at least of clearance on sides which means it was banging around in the box the whole trip. Looks like a return. No hardware, or screws included. It wasn't even in a bag and "manual" is a corner-stapled 8.5x11 photocopy.

I wasn't planning on installing this right away, and now I'm thinking about returning because I don't want to have problems down the line due to unseen damage or broken solder joints. Very sketchy.

by:

A little bit confusing when speaking with sale team, received conflicting information regarding converters application. Shipping was fast but converter container was damaged and poorly packed for sensitive electronics. Previous business with etrailer has been stellar. May be awhile before I can hookup converter, so hopeful nothing was damaged!

by:

Works great and is lithium capable . Far better charging of my house batteries than the wfco that came with my trailer

by:

Nice unit, I wish the exterior would be something other than plastic and the install directions were more precise. The PD045 sits close to the floor and a case of something other than plastic would be more durable. Perhaps an aluminum cover would help. The new unit replaced a 25yo and my Leisure Travel RV. The new 4045 works well. It took a year to installs as I could not find a local RV place that would work on the replacement. Decided to educate myself and installed the unit this spring ( I bought the 4045 model last summer). The etrailer install videos were useful as well as numerous YouTube guides. However, much better manufacturer instructions would have saved a lot of time.

by:

I purchased the Progressive Dynamics PD9200 to replace a failing OEM converter. The unit is wider than the original but with some minor wood work I was able to install it in the original location. As soon as I powered it up all of our problems in the 2018 Forest River 5th wheel vanished. Our main issue was flickering LEDs which drove us crazy. Time will tell if this is a quality product. etrailer is amazing to work with. The item arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. It was packaged in the original box so the serial number on the unit matched the number on the box. No fear of counterfeit items from these folks.

by:

This is working well for us in our diy camper! We had to use [online] to figure out how to hook it up.

by:

So far converter has been reliable with no issues. Purchased originally after converting to lithium batteries in which the old converter didn't support. Took me three hours to remove the old and install the new. I'm happy with my purchase.

by:

Bought this distribution panel for an enclosed trailer build and it has been perfect! I coupled this with a 100aH lithium battery and Renogy lithium battery monitor; the built in lithium charging support has been a great option. After figuring out all of my wiring it was a very simple install and the blown fuse indicators are great for quick trouble shooting.

by:

Glad I went lithium. Actually I have both. I can flip between lithium and my lead acid batteries for cold weather travels. But lithium charges up in half the time or less. And I have almost twice the reserve power. My only question for myself is, do I go solar, or do I install another bank of lithium? By far this is the best upgrade I've made to our rig.

by:

Game-changer for our lifepo4 batteries! I swapped out the PD 4135K for the WFCO 8735P that came standard in our trailer. Installation was fairly easy, just had to glue and screw a 1/2" square dowel in one side of the cutout to make the opening smaller. Wiring was simple. We only charge throu the converter when we don't have enough solar, and it's nice to know we're maximizing the charging from our generator. The lithium switch is really small and a little hard to access, but I shouldn't need to get to it again unless we switch back to AGM, which isn't going to happen. Happy we made the change!

by:

I used this to replace a WFCO 9855 AD. The autodetect in the WFCO rarely worked properly. This Progressive Dynamics unit has been so much simpler and better for my batteries. I have (2) 200 ah Lifepo4 batteries. I finally got them to 100% charge. I was torn between the 45 amp and the 60 amp version. I ultimately chose the 45 amp to keep my amps down when plugged into lower amp shore power and also didn't want to stress the batterie cables.

My only minor complaint is the high power charging only lasts about 8 or 10 hours, before kicking to a maintenance charge. I have to disconnect wait 10 minutes and reconnect the converter to restart the high power charging cycle.

by:

I always get my battery chargers manufactured by Progessive Dynamics ( no matter what battery tech I use). Never had a failure in 10 plus years!

by:

With Progressive Dynamics (pendant) you can control the converter/Battery charger.
I didn't realize the unit comes with a pendant so... I bought one now I have 2. Very good charger, easy install, shipping was fast as usual.

by:

First off a big 'Thank You' to etrailer for sending it two-day shipping even though I had free shipping. You won't get that at [online]! Item arrived in perfect shape. Easily installed and worked as soon as I turned it on. Will shop etrailer again!

by:

Nice, compact unit. Replace a WFCO inverter that came with our RV. Had replaced the WFCO 2 times plus returned one dead out of the box.

The Progressive Dynamics is a smaller footprint. The AC and DC wiring was easy and straightforward. No wire nuts (ugh) needed or did I need to stuff wires and wire nuts into a small space.

Nice operational display. I did not run the remote display/control into the RV but mounted it above the PD for easy use.

by:

When my 40-amp converter suddenly quit working, I began searching for a replacement after confirming with my multimeter that there was no output. I found very few 40-amp and those were very $$$. I contacted etrailer.com to see if I could replace with a 45-amp. A quick response assured me it would assuming the 12v wiring would be heavy enough since an additional 5-amps would be minimal. The installation was very simple, and the system was immediately restored.
THANKS, etrailer!!

by:

This all-in-one power center is very well designed. Made to keep on-board batteries continuously charged, plenty of room for branch circuit breakers and 12v circuits. Built-in ventilation fan to keep the electronics cool. It comes in a smart looking case with hinged door access to the breakers and fuses and led indicator lights showing blown fuse location. Vey pleased with my choice of a distribution center for my trailer rebuild.

by:

I like the service from etrailer...They were straight forward and the customer service was very helpful. I would definately buy from etrailer again. Very professional.

  • Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter & Battery Chargers For 12V Lithium or 24V Lead Acid
You will be able to use either the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger 60-Amp # PD79RR or 45-Amp # PD69RR to charge your lithium battery. The difference is going to come down to the maximum rate of charge that can go to the battery or batteries if you add a 2nd battery, which results in how quickly the battery can reach a full charge. The higher the amperage the more output to the batteries. Since your tiny house is using 24v lead acid batteries I recommend...

  • Charging Two 12V Lithium Batteries Properly
Whenever changing the battery type, it's a smart to change the way you charge. I would recommend getting a 12V Lithium charging system if your batteries are not wired in parallel. They most likely are so in that case you should get this one # PD924024A. It is the same brand as your other one # PD9160ALV but is for lithium batteries.

  • How to Provide 12V Power Source for Testing Trailer Lighting
I spoke to my contact at Progressive Dynamics and he agreed with my proposed recommendation that for your specific application of temporarily testing/evaluating light placement in your build project you simply use a 12V deep cycle battery along with a solar battery charger like # PTW2997. This 2.5 watt solar charger has built in blocking circuitry to prevent reverse discharge from your battery back to the panel. This also means you could use two chargers at once (in parallel with the battery)...
